Electric Soul presents the Fender Highway One Stratocaster. This 2007 model comes in the Midnight Wine finish, with a rosewood fingerboard and the characteristic large headstock. The Highway One was designed as the most affordable option in Fender’s American-made lineup, making it a predecessor to the later American Special and American Performer series.

The most interesting feature of this guitar is its body finished in satin nitrocellulose lacquer. This is rare for an instrument in this price range and one of the reasons why the H1 still attracts so much interest. The thin nitro finish easily picks up signs of use, gradually giving the guitar a naturally aged look. This kind of natural relic effect is appreciated by many guitarists.

Apart from this rather unique feature, the guitar has a very classic, fully professional specification. An alder body, a maple neck with a Modern C profile and a rosewood fingerboard with a 9.5-inch radius are features also found on more expensive American Stratocasters, including the American Standard. The Highway One has its own character, though, with 22 jumbo frets, a classic vintage-style six-screw tremolo and three Hot Single-Coil pickups with Alnico 3 magnets. These pickups offer a slightly more aggressive character than Fender’s classic, smoother single-coils.

The guitar offered here has plenty of visible signs of use, including scratches, dings and worn areas in the finish. But with this guitar, that is exactly what you would expect. Technically, it is fully functional, properly set up and ready to play. The frets have had a light level and polish, so there is certainly no need to do any further work on them at the moment.
