Description

Electric Soul presents the Epiphone Tony Iommi SG Special. This 2022 model comes in the classic Vintage Cherry finish and is inspired by the legendary Gibson “Monkey” SG, which helped shape the sound of Black Sabbath.

Tony Iommi is one of the founding fathers of heavy metal. His heavy, dark riffs became the foundation of the Sabbath sound and an inspiration for generations of guitarists. He showed how much could be achieved with a simple, powerful riff and a dark tone. It is hard to imagine the history of metal without his distinctive style.

The mahogany body with its double-cutaway shape and the set mahogany neck with a fuller Rounded profile provide a classic Gibson-inspired foundation. One of the most interesting features of this model is the pair of Epiphone PRO P-90 pickups in metal covers. This is an unusual choice for a guitar associated with heavy sounds, setting it apart from instruments equipped with humbuckers. P-90s are single-coil pickups, but they can deliver a thick, raw and aggressive tone while retaining a clear attack and great response to playing dynamics. They work very well for old-school heavy riffs, but with less gain, they are equally at home with blues and softer styles.

As you would expect from a well-designed signature model, attention has also been paid to the details. It features CTS potentiometers, Orange Drop capacitors, Grover Rotomatic tuners and a Graph Tech nut. The Indian laurel fingerboard with 22 frets completes the package, along with the characteristic slim SG shape, which provides easy access to the upper frets. This is an interesting guitar for players looking for a heavy tone with character and strong roots in guitar history.

The guitar offered here is in mint condition, literally like new. Even the original factory protective films are still in place. We will leave the pleasure of peeling them off to the new owner, although they did make our photos a little less attractive. Both visually and in terms of overall condition, it is hard to ask for more, this guitar looks as if it has just arrived from the distributor.

The set includes the original hard case, factory paperwork and a sticker featuring the legendary monkey playing a violin. The sticker allows you to complete the guitar’s look in Tony Iommi style, if you wish.
